Awards Circuit Community Awards- What I voted for

The ACCA have delivered the best nominees of any awards this year, and it’s also the one that’s open to the public so I’ve voted, and here is who I voted for:

Best Picture: Boyhood- This is my favourite film, not only of this year’s contenders, but of all time. It’s brilliant and by far the best film this year. I was considering voting for Foxcatcher, which is also great, but Boyhood was just impossible not to vote for.

Best Director: Richard Linklater (Boyhood)- The man who is 95% responsible for the success of Boyhood is Linklater, he deserves endless credit. If he doesn’t win here at the Oscars, it’ll be absurd. He definitely deserves to win.

Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything)- This is the best acting performance of the year. He’s absolutely incredible as not even just Stephen Hawking, but he is absolutely believable as a disabled person. It’s a performance for the ages.

Best Actress: Keira Knightley (Begin Again)- I have to confess, Begin Again is the only film of the Best Actress nominees I’ve seen, but Keira Knightley really surprised me in Begin Again as she actually plays a real person, rather than stuck up British period characters. She’s charming, she’s got a great voice and it’s her best performance of the year, much better than her Oscar-nominated performance in The Imitation Game.

Best Supporting Actor: Steve Carell (Foxcatcher)- I love Steve Carell, and his performance in Foxcatcher is incredible, up there with The Office as his best career performance. Let’s be honest, he should have been nominated in the supporting category at the Oscars, so Oyelowo would get into Best Actor and Duvall could miss out. I think Hawke and Norton were also great, while Simmons is a bit overrated. I hope Carell wins in this category at the Baftas.

Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)- I don’t necessarily think Arquette even gave the best performance in Boyhood (that’s easily Hawke), but her contribution is impossible to ignore. She’s really talented and it’s great she’s getting her due for a really fantastic film.
