Post-TIFF Oscar Predictions

After the buzziest of all film festivals, the Toronto International Film Festival, finished last week, I think it’s time to update my Oscar predictions in the major categories. The contenders are ranked in the likeliness of winning in February.

Best Picture: Spotlight, Steve Jobs, Carol, The Hateful Eight, Bridge of Spies, The Revenant, Joy, The Danish Girl, Inside Out, Room.

Best Director: Todd Haynes (Carol), Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (The Revenant), David O. Russell (Joy), Danny Boyle (Steve Jobs), Thomas McCarthy (Spotlight).

Best Actor: Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl), Michael Caine (Youth), Johnny Depp (Black Mass), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant).

Best Actress: Brie Larson (Room), Carey Mulligan (Suffragette), Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn), Jennifer Lawrence (Joy), Cate Blanchett (Carol).

Best Supporting Actor: Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation), Michael Keaton (Spotlight), Samuel L. Jackson (The Hateful Eight), Tom Hardy (The Revenant), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies).

Best Supporting Actress: Rooney Mara (Carol), Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight).

Best Original Screenplay: Spotlight, The Hateful Eight, Inside Out, Joy, Bridge of Spies.

Best Adapted Screenplay: Steve Jobs, Carol, The Danish Girl, Room, Brooklyn.

Best Animated Feature: Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Anomalisa, The Peanuts Movie.
