Evening Standard British Film Awards- FINAL PREDICTIONS

Jake Davies is nominated at the Evening Standard British Film Awards tonight in the Rising Star category for his performance in X+Y.

I’ve only just heard about these awards, but they might just be my favourite this year, as their set of nominees are just brilliant. You can check them out here: http://www.standard.co.uk/goingout/film/evening-standard-british-film-awards-the-contenders-a3155496.html . They really do celebrate the best of British and Irish cinema in a way that the BAFTAs and the MBIFAs could only wish. You can tell their list is purely based on talent, and not trying to predict bigger award shows. My particular favourite is the recognition in the Rising Star category for newcomer Jake Davies, for his phenomenal and heartbreaking supporting performance in the British Independent Drama X+Y. If you haven’t seen it yet, I urge you to check it out, and I’m glad the film is getting some kind of recognition, even after its complete snubbing at the BAFTAs. Anyway, they’re tonight, and I thought I’d have a go at predicting who will win:

Best Film: 45 Years

Best Actor: Tom Courtenay- 45 Years

Best Actress: Saoirse Ronan- Brooklyn

Blockbuster of the Year: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Best Screenplay: Emma Donoghue- Room

Rising Star: Agyness Deyn- Sunset Song

Award for Comedy: Emma Thompson- The Legend of Barney Thomson

Technical Achievement: Mark Digby- Ex Machina (Production Design)

Best Documentary: Amy

The Evening Standard British Film Awards are held tonight in London.
